Today was pink shirt day.  

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day!  Wear pink if you can.  If you don’t have pink wear red instead. Today we focused on kindness.  We created our own pink shirts.  We are reading books about kindness all week. We started a new read aloud novel called ‘The  Chocolate Touch’. We have been playing math games to practice making ten.  We know make 10 memory, make 10 go fish and make 10 solitaire.  We worked our mental math brains by working through Splat on the smart board. We also had a special presentation 

Today we read a story about kindness.  We will be focussing on kindness all week in honour of Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday.  We finished the novel “The Cricket in Times Square”.  Each student completed a visual journal page response to the book.  In math we played ‘Make Ten Go Fish’, reviewed counting by 2s and did the number of the day-51.

Take a look at the photos!  We were scientists as we dissected owl pellets to try and figure out what owls eat.

Today everyone finished their research cubes!  They are now displayed in the classroom.   We also worked on creating repeating patterns and talked about the core of each pattern.    We played ‘Make 10 memory’ with our Power of Ten cards to practice adding 2 numbers that make ten.  We also had some dogs from the program PALS come and visit.

We have been busy in grade 1!  We continue to work on phonics, Daily 5, Read Aloud, printing and math each day.  We are wrapping up our bird research by making research cubes to display our learning.  Today we enjoyed making bags to hold valentines and sharing valentines with each other.  There is a break from school on Thursday-Monday.  School resumes on Tuesday, February 18.
